Question formats

One correct answer

Four options; choose one. The most common format.

Which statement is true?

Two statements; decide which one is correct (treated here as a single-answer question).

Select two

Who takes it

  • Most people aged 18–64 applying for settlement (ILR) or British citizenship.
  • You do not take it if you are under 18, 65 or over, or you have already passed it for an earlier application.
  • A long-term physical or mental condition may qualify for exemption — that is decided through the official process, not this app.
  • English language is a separate requirement.

Test centres

There are more than 30 centres across the UK. You choose a location when you book. Take the same original photo ID you used to book; a copy or screenshot is not accepted. Your photo is taken on the day.

Centres are available in cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Bristol, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and others. The live list is on GOV.UK when you book.

Helpline published by GOV.UK for booking help: 0800 015 4245 (Monday to Friday). Book at GOV.UK.

A note on the 3rd edition

The official Life in the UK Test is based on the official handbook. UK Test Ready practice questions follow that handbook. They are original practice questions, not the questions used in the official test.
